Better Than Pizza
November 20, 2009
People consume a lot of strange foods around the world and few seem to be consumed than pizza. It is consumed all over the world, in many different flavors, and seems to have its largest homebase in the USA where it is literally eaten by the acre every day.
These interesting stats are based on pizza consumption in the USA:
- Pizzarias represent 17% of all restaurants in the USA.
- On average, an American citizen eats 46 pizza slices per year.
- Over 250 Million pounds of pepperoni is consumed annually in the USA.
Needless to say, the Americans love their pizza. How does this all stack up when you compare with Australia? With a much smaller population in Australia, the Aussies still carry their weight in the pizza eating stakes. The boys at Melbourne Pizza Delivery (MPD) are carrying out the next Australian Social Experiment to establish where they are positioned in the global marketplace of the renown gourmet pizza.
How will this social experiment work? First of all the boys from MPD establish the nutrition levels of various pizza varieties. Then they look at who consumes the different pizza types and what the demographics of the consumers are. How do people’s bodies cope with the nutrition levels of a pizza over weeks, maybe years? There are many questions to ask and these will be answered as the research continues.
People from all walks of life love their pizza and it certainly isn’t restricted to certain social backgrounds anymore. Anyone can afford a take away pizza nowadays and that clearly shows up in the copious amounts of pizza that is delivered to people’s doorsteps every week all around the globe.
