The Benefits of Skin Needling
January 30, 2010
Collagen Induction Therapy is a procedure which often requires a trip to a specialist. However, skin needling or microneedling is a type of collagen induction therapy which can be done by yourself in your own house, in your own time; this helps to smooth out wrinkles, improves acne scarring and reduces stretch marks.
One thing that scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and uneven skin have in common is a lack of collagen. Using a skin Needling Roller (micro needling) stimulates collagen production in the skin, preventing and even reversing their formation.
Skin needling (micro-needling) is a procedure carried out using a skin roller that is covered with several tiny needles. These needles puncture the top layer of skin and carefully separate the pores of the skin. This method has two great bonuses; it competently activates collagen production at the same time as providing a clear channel for topical gels and creams to be absorbed more easily through the outside layer (epidermis) of skin. Skin microneedling creates a very minor trauma which lasts for about one hour and doesn’t cause the skin any real harm such as bleeding in the treated area in the way that laser therapy or microdermabrasion do.
The microscopic punctures (which are often just the opening of the pores of your skin) caused by the skin micro-needling, encourage collagen production in the second layer of skin (the dermis) and it creates the right environment for collagen and elastin formation. These key ingredients help the skin to cosmetically repair.
There are several alternatives to Micro-Needling, most of which require visits to clinical beauticians or other specialists. These include laser therapy and Micro-Dermabrasion. Using a skin roller at home is generally much cheaper.
